What are the benefits of sweet almond oil?
The virtues of sweet almond oil are multiple. It protects the skin and strengthens the hydrolipidic film of the skin (hence the recommended use during pregnancy). Its high content of vitamins (A and E), as well as it's emollient and softening properties, make it an excellent asset for nails and hair. Sweet almond oil is also antioxidant. Its anti-ageing properties reduce wrinkles.
Rich in omega-9 essential fatty acids, sweet almond oil nourishes the body and is excellent for a baby's skin. It helps the skin to heal and its anti-infectious properties prevent bacterial infections which develop more easily in the face of dry skin.
Anti-inflammatory and calming, it relieves minor skin irritations (eczema, psoriasis, herpes) and inflammation of the urinary, digestive and respiratory tracts.
In internal consumption, it is also a natural remedy to calm the cough in case of bronchitis.
Finally, sweet almond oil can boost desire in case of low libido and reduce problems related to fertility and impotence.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF Sweet Almond Oil?
Apart from a contraindication for people allergic to nuts, sweet almond oil does not present any danger.
An Italian study shows that anti-stretch mark massages based on sweet almond oil are not harmless during pregnancy. They could increase the risk of premature delivery.
An Italian study that has just been published in the journal Human Reproduction shows that the use of herbal medicine during pregnancy could increase the risk of premature labour or low birth weight babies. For this study, researchers from the University of Modena interviewed 700 young mothers the day after giving birth in 3 hospitals in northern Italy. They asked them if they had treated themselves with herbal products for at least three months during their pregnancy. To analyze the possible repercussions of these plants on the evolution of pregnancy, the scientists also took into account the risk factors of each future mother: possible overweight, age, smoking or associated pathologies, and taking other drugs prescribed by their gynaecologist.
